Meet Avery Willow... just three weeks old when she made her modeling debut with me. When it comes to newborn photography, you can never try to prepare too much. I always shoot to start my sessions right after a morning feeding, so the baby will be nice and sleepy during photos. Not all people are really looking for that popular sleeping-baby photo set that you see all the time, but the truth is (and no surprise)... its just easier to take photos when they're sleeping because they're happy, content and still. While setting up and getting started, it quickly became clear that Avery was not going to sleep through any of this fun. Normally, that could mean a difficult, long session with lots of soothing-baby breaks... but that was definitely not the case here. She was wide awake but so completely happy. At just three weeks old, she seemed so aware of my camera and was almost posing herself, shot after shot. She'd start to squirm... I'd lift my camera and point the lens her way... and she'd quickly stop moving and stare, waiting for me to get exactly what I needed. With 2 ecstatic brand new parents... 4 proud new grandparents... and one very supportive greyhound... Avery soaked up the spotlight and seemed to enjoy every second of it.

South Florida Sunrise | Dania Beach Photographer
Since I'm past the age of watching the sunrise on my way home from the clubs, the only time I am really awake in time to enjoy them anymore is when I have a morning beach photo session. I should maybe consider waking up early enough to enjoy them more often...I definitely live close enough to the beach... Eh, but I do love my sleep.Maybe this photo I took of last Saturday's sunrise at Dania Beach Pier will fulfill my need for a while. Until the next morning session, of course.
2 Year Old Girl, Maternity - Family of 3 | Dania Beach Family Photographer
I spent this past Saturday morning with this adorable family on Dania Beach. Heather is expecting her second child and wanted to do something a little different than the typical studio maternity photos this time, so we did a full family session. When we met at the beach, I gave them one important instruction... to simply have fun - I was just going to hang around to document it. Two year old Ava must have heard me loud and clear, because she seemed to have a blast from start to finish. I can almost hear her laugh coming through some of these images. You can definitely tell she's excited to be a big sister!I had such hard time narrowing down my favorites, but here are just a few...
Battle of Siam: News-Journal Center | South Florida Event Photographer
Something a little different. I had never even been to any kind of fight before, let alone shot photos of a fight. I figured the lighting and the movement couldn't be THAT different from concerts, which I have plenty of experience doing... (as seen HERE, of course). I was somewhat right. As far as setting my camera's ISO/aperture/shutter speed and following moving subjects to focus, it was similar. But behind my camera at a concert, I feel the music and let the beat and the energy of the performers direct my shoot a bit. In this case? I felt like I was missing opportunities for good shots, because anytime anyone got a good punch or kick in, I'd pull away from my camera and cringe. Some of it was painful to watch. I'm sure the fighters involved would love to remind me that I don't have any idea what true pain is, so I'll just stop talking now.The fight took place at the News-Journal Center in Daytona Beach on February 19, 2012. Although the event was made up of several fights, I was there to focus on getting photos specifically of Joe Miller of Dynasty Martial Arts & Fitness - fighting Muay Thai against opponent Kegan Otey. The fights are made up of 3 rounds, but I quickly realized that when I'm behind the camera concentrating on photos, I'm not seeing the fight objectively enough to have any idea who's in the lead. Not that I know enough about fighting to know who should win anyway, but in this case, I'm glad it was Joe - it made the concluding photos that much happier.
9 month baby boy | Fort Lauderdale Baby Photographer
Sticking with the tie theme... check out the even smaller one on this little guy! I couldn't believe we were trying to plan for 9-month portraits of Noah. Doesn't THIS seems like it was yesterday? Even though we weren't going to have time for a full session before his momma went back to Jacksonville, we had to at least squeeze in a few quick shots in the backyard. He's changing so fast - and those curls! Oh my. I still had an entire team of family and friends as my cheerleaders for this shoot like usual. In fact, if you look closely in the last photo, you can see their reflection. Thanks, Team! And of course to Noah just for being an adorable model, as always.(This post is sponsored by the NBA)
3.5 year old boy, gulfstream park | South Florida Child Photographer
A trip to Gulfstream Park in Hallandale. Horses. Moose (the 3.5 year old, actually named Grant - not the animal). And a stick-on tie. This little boy can find fun anywhere.
glowing mom-to-be of 1, maternity | South Florida Maternity Photographer
I've known Erin since elementary school, but have never seen her more beautiful than as this glowing mom-to-be. Both she and her husband, Glenn, made this maternity session so easy for me - their happiness and love for each other was magnetic. Even little Dominic was excited about his pseudo modeling debut and kicked his momma through most of the session... he better get used to the spotlight, I have a feeling he's going to see a lot of cameras in his life!We started the day with some more personal photos in their home and then took some outdoor shots at Tree Tops Park in Davie. Here are just a few of my favorites...
photobooth - christmas eve eve | Fort Lauderdale Event Photographer
What happens when a photographer throws a Christmas party?! Hours of PHOTOBOOTH fun! I kept it simple - my "booth" was made up of a Nikon D90 on a tripod, a SB800 flash on a light stand with a shoot-through umbrella, a Botero collapsible grey background and my MacBookPro for viewing purposes. Add a wireless trigger for the flash, a remote control, a cord to tether the camera to the computer and a box of props from the party store... and voila! Its probably safe to assume that not many people actually read my list of photobooth rules posted in the entryway but I guess it wasn't too difficult to figure out: Stand in front of camera, press the remote to take a photo, view the photo on the screen... and repeat. The next day, I suddenly had 523 images to go through and a group of people who can't wait until the next photobooth event! As suspected, the pictures only started out fairly innocent and wholesome. Here are just a few that passed the public viewing test...
family Mini-Sessions | Fort Lauderdale Beach Photographer
Sunday's Holiday Mini-Sessions were a success! I had a nice variety of chasing around toddlers and posing adults, however I definitely underestimated the difficulty of shooting while running around in sand for hours. Exhausting but totally worth it for all these faces. Here's a few of my favorites from my last 1.5 hours of shooting...
Art Miami: Wynwood | Art Basel 2011 in Photos
For a few days every December, the artists outnumber the non-artists in Miami. Two words: Arts. Basel. If you're unfamiliar with Art Basel - its a giant art playground for people like me. In other words, its an international contemporary art fair that only happens in Switzerland and Miami. We stayed away from the convention center in South Beach and hung out in the art/design district for the day, where there were still a ton of events going on. Here's a glimpse into my day - starting at Wynwood Walls, all through Midtown and then ending at Art Miami and Red Dot...
